Psycho Killer, Qu’est Que C’est?

Today's post is about one of my favorite blogs, Dead Silence. This blog is purely about serial killers past and present. Book, movie, online resources are also sometimes featured. My favorite post is about serial killer groupies. You know, women who gravitate toward jailbirds for insane reasons. Well, she (the blog owner is female!!!) listed some reasons why those women are drawn to serial killers.
Beauty and the Beast syndrome: they like the idea of getting close to danger that will probably not hurt them, but there’s always the slight chance
Low self-esteem: some women believe they cannot find a man and since men in prison are desperately lonely, it’s an easy way to get involved
Hybristophilia: some people are sexually excited by others who commit violence
Attention: when they do something like get involved with a killer, people talk about them and often the media puts a spotlight on them
Interesting! Another favorite post of mine is about the common characteristics of serial killers.
1. Over 90 percent of serial killers are male.
2. They tend to be intelligent, with IQ’s in the “bright normal” range.
3. They do poorly in school, have trouble holding down jobs, and often work as unskilled laborers.
4. They tend to come from markedly unstable families.
5. As children, they are abandoned by their fathers and raised by domineering mothers.
6. Their families often have criminal, psychiatric and alcoholic histories.
7. They hate their fathers and mothers.
8. They are commonly abused as children — psychologically, physically and sexually. Often the abuse is by a family member.
9. Many serial killers spend time in institutions as children and have records of early psychiatric problems.
10. They have high rates of suicide attempts.
11. From an early age, many are intensely interested in voyeurism, fetishism, and sado-masochistic pornography.
12. More than 60 percent of serial killers wet their beds beyond the age of 12.
13. Many serial killers are fascinated with fire starting.
14. They are involved with sadistic activity or tormenting small creatures.
I went over and over the list and I hardly qualify although I suspect I have the potential to be a serial killer.
Just scoot over to the Dead Silence blog if you want to find out more about the likes of Ed Gain, Jack the Ripper, HH Holmes, and you.

I am also fascinated with what makes a human have to inflict their own pain and suffering on others.
Early childhood trauma seems to be a key factor and also negative parenting inject the ingredients.
The rationalizing into violence rather than understanding, at some time it came down to choice. Fighting and urge and surrendering to primal, original sin.
