Your text goes hereThe police are looking for a middle-aged man who dug up his father's two-year-old corpse in a bid to bring him back to life.
At about 1:00 a.m. Friday morning, 40-year-old Abdur Rehman went to the graveyard where his father, Abdur Rauf, was buried. The graveyard is managed by the well-to-do Bawany Trust and falls in the limits of the Mewa Shah graveyard. Abdur Rauf used to be the head of the Bawany Trust.
“I saw Rehman Sahib with two gravediggers at his father's grave," said witness Mohammad Aijaz, a fruit seller, while talking to Daily Times at the Ferozabad police station. As Aijaz is homeless he would sleep at the trust's office at the graveyard each night. Aijaz saw that Rehman had come with an Edhi ambulance and the trust's chowkidar. The body was put on a stretcher and as they were about to leave, Rehman invited Aijaz to come along.
The party reached Rehman's house in PECHS Block 7/8, following which Rehman got the men to put his father's body in a room. Rehman then took Aijaz in his car to a medical store. He bought Dettol, bandages, cotton swabs and milk and they returned home upon which they had tea as the azaan sounded for Fajr prayers.
“Rehman was in a strange state,” Aijaz said. “He paced the room, chain smoked and kept saying, 'Papa mujhe mauf kar do'." At 7a.m., Rehman left Aijaz at his house and locked it from the outside.
Aijaz remained locked in the house till after Jumma prayers when Rehman returned in a fit of rage. "Shortly after Rehman entered the house, a policeman arrived but Rehman didn't open the door," Aijaz said.
In about 30 minutes a heavy contingent of police arrived upon which Rehman went to the second floor of the house and escaped. The police arrested Aijaz who told them that Rehman had made a similar attempt six months after his father's death. He had dug the grave and sprayed it with air freshner.
Rehman is unmarried and loved his father. According to the police his brother has said he will register an FIR under section 297 which pertains to defiling a body. The police wanted to know why the Edhi ambulance driver did not inform them immediately. "Rehman kidnapped our ambulance driver Altaf at gunpoint," said Rizwan Edhi, adding that they informed the Sher Shah police at the time.
