German Town Gets Rid of Road Signs
February 14th 2007 13:53
A town in Germany has removed every road sign as part of an EU-backed project to encourage responsible driving.
Traffic in Bohmte, which has 13,000 inhabitants, is split into cars, bikes and pedestrians.
Its only rules are to drive on the right and give way to other cars at junctions.
Hans Monderman, the manager of the project, said: 'A rural town should look like a rural town and not the Nürburgring racing track.
'By removing signs, we raise awareness among road users for each other.'
