Airport security can be very frustrating in this age of post-9/11 paranoia, security theatre and the War on Liquids. But one German tourist in the Phillipines should probably have found a better outlet for his dissatisfaction – because he could now face six years in jail for dropping his trousers before walking through an X-ray machine

The 66-year-old man, the impressively named Hans Jurgen Oskar von Naguschewski, was trying to board a flight from Manila airport to Frankfurt when he was asked to walk through the X-ray scanner for a second time.


This was clearly the straw that broke the camel's back, and von Naguschewski responded by pulling his trousers down before walking through the machine.

The police promptly detained him, and filed a complaint of lasciviousness.

Police Superintendent Atilano Morada commented: 'He was clearly irked and he showed it by disrobing.'

For his part, von Naguschewski claims it was all a misunderstanding: 'The man kept saying “take off, take off” but the shoes were already off and the pants were alone [without a belt]. So what else would I take off?'

If convicted of lasciviousness, von Naguschewski could face between six months and six years in jail. He is due in court today.
