(Amsterdam, The Netherlands) Four men are accused of drugging, raping and then injecting their male victims with their own HIV-infected blood Dutch police have announced.

Police said that two of the men have confessed.

The bizarre case is under investigation in the northern city of Groningen.

The attacks took place at gay sex parties, district police chief Ronald Zwarter told reporters at a news conference.

Three of the accused directly participated Zwarter said. The fourth sold them the drugs. All four are HIV-positive.

"The suspicion is that, at these parties, they had unsafe sex with people they had drugged, and also that these people were injected with infected blood," Zwarter said.


"The motive to do this was the 'kick,' and the feeling that unsafe sex is 'pure.'"

The two who have confessed will be charged with rape and premeditated assault. If convicted they could face a maximum sentence of 16 years in prison. Attempted murder charges were not considered, a prosecutor said, because of a court ruling that AIDS is no longer an inevitably fatal disease, but rather a chronic illness.

The investigation against the third man continues.

The fourth will be charged with drug possession and dealing.

Zwarter said that the investigation began when five men complained to police they had been drugged and raped.

Investigators allege that ecstasy and GHB, known as the date rape drug were used to subdue and knock out the victims. They were then raped and while unconscious the accused are alleged to have drawn vials of their their own HIV-infected blood and injected it into the victims.
