Well there are conflicting reports if she really has Cobain's ashes but who'd want to smoke ashes anyway?

German artist Natascha Stellmach is reportedly claiming to be in possession of Kurt Cobain’s ashes and is threatening to smoke them as part of a morbid art exhibition.

The late Nirvana frontman’s cremated remains were reportedy stolen in May from his rocker widow Courtney Love along with thousands of dollars worth of jewelry.

Courtney claimed to be “suicidal” over the loss, saying at the time:

“I can’t believe anyone would take Kurt’s ashes from me. They were all I had left of my husband. Now it feels like I have lost him all over again.”

Stellmach says she has ‘acquired’ the ashes and has released a statement announcing her find and also detailed her plans to smoke the ashes as part of the forthcoming Set Me Free exhibition at the city’s Wagner and Partner gallery on 11 October.

But she won’t say how she came to be in possession of the remains telling Artworld magazine:

“That’s confidential and kind of magic. They came to me. And I am setting him free.”

I’m just curious, since they were stolen in the first place shouldn’t she have to turn them over now that she has announced she has them??

Anyways, Courtney Love has denied reports that German artist Natascha Stellmach has ashes of her late husband and is now insisting the ashes were never stolen in the first place. Her representative Alan Nierob retracted her previous comments, saying Cobain’s remains “were never taken” and the story of the burglary had been “erroneously reported”.

Oh the drama!

I bet Courtney Love will storm that exhibit.

Creepy Underwater Sculptures

September 26th 2008 08:42
Orble threatened to pull the plug on this blog since I haven't posted for ages so I here I post again. I know, I've been lazy and shit but whatever.

Jason de Caires Taylor is the creator of the first underwater sculpture park. At least, that's what his website says. The sculptures which are installed off the Caribbean island of Granada can be mistaken for a modern Atlantis if an unsuspecting diver finds himself there.

Taylor, an avid diver, creates his sculptures out of wire, plaster and steel. They serve as artificial reefs for sea creatures so not only has he created art, he's doing the environment good as well. Nice!

If I have a beach property, I'd commission him to do creepy works for me. I'd dump them in the middle of the night and invite friends to snorkel without informing them about the sculptures.

Mexican Drug War Inspires Art

June 25th 2007 18:53
Mexico's gruesome drug war and its hundreds of executions a year are the inspiration for an art exhibit of red-splattered blankets meant to represent shrouds used by hitmen to dispose of their victims.

Rosa Maria Robles has laid tattered blankets, some of them with bits of plastic tape stuck to them, on floors in a museum in Sinaloa, a rural northern state that has long been a hotbed of drug smuggling and gangland murder.

Organized criminals in Mexico often cover the corpses of their victims, hands taped together and shot in the head, with a blanket before dumping them on quiet roads or abandoning them in the trunk of a car.

Robles exhibit, called the "Red Carpet" and open since May, had included blankets from actual crimes, complete with real blood, museum curator Rosa Maria Hass told Reuters.

"We decided to hand them over to the attorney general's office for investigation," Hass said, adding the artist has refused to say where she got them.

Evening news programs in Mexico regularly show images of forensic investigators photographing bodies draped in bloodied covers and the verb "to blanket" has taken on new meaning.

Another part of Robles' exhibition draws attention to beheadings, increasingly used by drug gangs to terrorize rival groups and even the army.

The government has sent the army to hotspots across Mexico to dismantle smuggling cartels battling for lucrative territory along the U.S. border, but there are few signs of improvement.

I would like to own a blanket from that collection.

Man Used Father's Corpse For Art

March 23rd 2007 20:50
Nigel Madden is an intriguing artist. Last year, he used photos of his father's corpse in his exhibit. More specifically, the corpse of his father on a mortuary slab, covered with bruises. This year, he's selling the ashes of his father in an urn and to him this is a work of art. I don't think anybody's going to buy that claim though. Still, he entered it an art contest in New Zealand.

Rubber Duckie Suicide

January 26th 2007 07:12
This is just concept art but I think it's very useful for suicidal kids or immature adults.

Nicolas Gaudron came up with Electric Bath Duck For Suicidal Tendency which is a rubber duck with a plug. Just plug it in, get in the tub, and play with ducky. Instant but cute death. You'll wish you can do it over and over again. The "product" comes with instructions and a detachable card to write your suicide note in. However, it's "one use only

Butt Paint Artist

An art teacher who moonlighted as a 'butt-printing artist' has been fired from his school.

ewww
Stephen Murmer had initially been suspended from work after a YouTube video of him appearing – in disguise – on a TV show, demonstrating how he used his buttocks for painting, was circulated amongst pupils at the school.

Mr. Bourcart is the brain behinds "Collateral". No, not the movie. It's the name of his project which involves projecting images of dead or mutilated Iraqis to houses, churches, parking lots, supermarkets, etcetera of Americans.

I projected photographs of mutilated and dead Iraqis on American houses, supermarkets, churches, and parking lots. I was thinking of this new generation of kids who will be traumatized for life by growing up during wartime. It was a desperate gesture: my personal protest for the lack of interest for the non-american victims.

Here's another great creation from the land of the rising sun. Guro (also known as ero guro) is a type of visual art which combines macabre with erotica. The movement originated in Japan and can be found in their art, cinema, and music and thanks to gaijin otakus, its popularity has spread to different parts of the globe and thereby increasing the number of sick fucks who have internet access. I am a sick fuck and I am a big fan of guro although I wasn't aware at first that some of the artists I admire are considered as guro artists.

Trevor Brown is one of them. A whitey who transferred to Japan, he became popular for his cute yet grotesque creations

Surreal Art

December 11th 2006 16:51
Persistence of Memory
Persistence of Memory
Surreal Art, or Hippy Drug-Induced Art as I call it, has been with us since early 1900's. Salvador Dali gained notoriety for this (as well as his well maintained mustache) especially with his melting clocks painting which is formally known as Persistence of Memory. I love Dali and his eccentric art but the new breed of surreal artists have something to boast as well. The art they create are sicker, more perverted, and more twisted than ever. I'm also nuts for them.

If you are a fan of surrealism, a pervert, a hick who doesn't know what art is, or just a curious reader, check out beinArt which is a collective of present surreal artists and some of their works. My personal favorites are Mark Ryden, Carrie Ann Baade, Michael Hussar, and David Stoupakis. The site is definitely not work-friendly
